Ecuador is the leader in community participation tourism. In the Amazon Region are over 40 projects (e.g. Napo River, Tena, Archidona, Pastaza River) whose attractions are based around the cultural wealth of the Amazon quichua and achuar people and the tropical rainforest. You can go for walks with native guides, know the ancient culture, do adventure tourism and learn about health, natural medicin and shamanism. Other activities are canoe trips, birdwatching, wildlife observation (mammals, insects and reptiles). Visitors stay with local families and taste local dishes.
